An Informal Conversation, “Securing Funding for PFAC and PFA Programs,” will be held on Thursday, May 28th from 12-1pm EDT. Bev Johnson, IPFCC President & CEO will present and facilitate a conversation about funding in these challenging times.

 

Topics will include building relationships with hospital and health system leadership, the hospital foundation and the development office, as well community engagement personnel and community and local foundation leaders. The importance of a PFAC and PFA Program Annual Report and an Annual Meeting that convey the values and outcomes of these partnerships will also be discussed. Plan to share your successful strategies during this session.

IPFCC at Work

Family-Centered Care Hospital Policies and Practices Scale Is

Now Available

The Family-Centered Care Hospital Policies and Practices Scale (FCC-HPPS) is a comprehensive survey assessing the views of hospital leaders and direct care healthcare professionals regarding their hospital’s culture, practices, and policies. The scale was developed and evaluated in international research conducted by the and the Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care and funded by Ronald McDonald House®. The FCC-HPPS is available in 7 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. The FCC-HPPS total and sub scale scores can be used to help determine initial priorities and action steps for family-centered care awareness, education, and improvement. It can also be used to track progress over time with the implementation of FCC quality improvement initiatives.

Healthcare Excellence Canada published their report, “Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan.” This report shares how milestones are shaping progress across each goal of the Action Plan.

The FCC Taskforce initiative is dedicated to quality improvement in NICU Family-Centered Care. It is hosting a webinar on May 14th, “Stigmatizing Language: Changing the Narrative.”

AgingINnovation 2026 Conference - Save the Date

AgingINSM, formerly the Pioneer Network and The Greenhouse Project and the Center for Innovation, will convene its 2026 Conference: AgingINnovation Redefining How We Live and Age in Denver, Colorado on August 10 - 13, 2026. The Conference will bring together care partners and elders with academic research and real-world practice for an inspiring event focused on advancing person-directed living across all care settings.

Ensuring Dignity in an Ageing World

 

This article, "Ensuring Dignity in an Ageing World: Improving Care Through a Human Rights Approach," was published in the journal Academia Mental Health and Well Being. It highlights the importance of being mindful and respectful of those who are aging and providing a truly person-centered care model.

Emerging Leaders Conversation Circle

 

The Association for the Healthcare Environment, focusing on environmental services, is hosting a virtual event on May 28th. The goal of the Conversation Circle is to have people connect with leaders and have the opportunity to meet other members, ask questions, discuss hot topics, and find solutions to current issues.

Grantmakers in Health Annual Conference

Grantmakers in Health are hosting their Annual Conference, with the theme “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Health” in Baltimore, MD on June 8-11. The conference is designed to engage health funders in the most pressing issues facing the field, including health equity, Medicaid and SNAP, public health, and civil society. It is a place to connect, learn from each other, and develop new approaches to the challenges ahead.

 

Trilingual Interpreters and Bilingual Staff Meet Patient Needs at Ventura County Medical Center

 

Ventura County Medical Center is enhancing patient care by developing trilingual interpreters and training some bilingual staff as interpreters to bridge language gaps, particularly for Hispanic and Indigenous populations. These efforts ensure access to trained professionals, improving communication and equity within the public health system. The Medical Center embedded two trilingual interpreters in Labor and Delivery and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit so they could develop as part of the team.
